Detecting and monitoring the level of contaminants in seawater and\ninland waterways is a key element of the WFD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In many cases it is very difficult or even impossible,\nby traditional techniques so, there is an urgent need to find accurate,\nreliable, easy and cost-efficient alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong>:&nbsp;The main driver of MONITOOL\nproject is to respond to European Directive demands for the assessment of\nchemical status of transitional and coastal waters, allowing the use of passive\nsampling devices (PSDs) in a regulatory context, enhancing the implementation\nof the WFD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MONITOOL PROJECT \u2013 New tools for monitoring the\nchemical status in transitional and coastal waters under the WFD \u2013 aims to\nprovide a robust database of dissolved and labile metal concentrations in\ntransitional and coastal waters for adapting existing Environmental Quality\nStandards (EQS; 0.45 \u00b5m filtered) suitable EQS-DGT for passive sampling devices\nin order to evaluate the chemical status of the waters under the WFD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During MONITOOL project, co-deployments of DGTs and\nwater spot sampling and subsequent DGT and water metal analysis across the\nAtlantic region will be addressed to determine suitable EQS-DGTs for metals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"two-columns-content-right\">\n
