Prototype production has been successfully completed on a small scale and the process is currently being optimised for industrial production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"two-columns-content\">\n    <div class=\"two-columns-content-left\">\n        \n<div class=\"wp-block-azti-two-columns-content\">\n<p>Campylobacter is one of the greatest concerns in the poultry sector of the\nEuropean Union. Consumption of poultry\nproducts, especially chicken meat, is considered the most common route for\nhuman campylobacteriosis, the most frequently reported food-borne illness in Europe\nand worldwide. Colonization of broiler chickens at farm level leads to\ntransmission of Campylobacter along the production chain, resulting in\ncontamination of poultry meat at retail level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard control measures at farm level rely upon the use of antibiotics,\nwhich promote the selection and spread of multidrug resistant strains, an\nadditional threat to public health. However, no effective alternative is\ncurrently available and pressure to reduce Campylobacter prevalence in poultry\nwithout use of medically-relevant antibiotics is rising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The C-SNIPER project aims to reduce the prevalence of Campylobacter in poultry\nthrough an innovative, efficient and non-antibiotic based mitigation strategy\nthat can be integrated into existing hygiene protocols. Specifically, this\nactivity will develop a bacteriophage-based solution to be used as natural\nantimicrobial in the farm (pre-harvest), slaughter and\/or processing facilities\n(post-harvest).
