Nevertheless, the global Mean Dynamic Topography\nsolutions available to date are less accurate in coastal areas because of\nlarger errors in altimeter data and the lack of <em>in situ <\/em>observations at\nmesoscale and sub mesoscale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The main objective of COMBAT is to take\nadvantage of a coastal HF radar system available in the south-eastern Bay of\nBiscay to calculate an improved Mean Dynamic Topography solution in the coastal\nstrip, <\/strong>by combining\nthe high spatial and temporal resolution of the HF radar velocities with other\nin situ and remote sensing measurements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To achieve this goal, the ocean signal\ncontained in altimetry and HF radar data will be compared and simulations from\nlocal and regional numerical models will be used to better characterize and\nestimate the different components of the surface currents in both remotely\nsensed measurements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After that, <strong>the necessary elements for\nensuring an effective assimilation in numerical models of the improved coastal\nMean Dynamic Topography and the corresponding Absolute Dynamic Topography, will\nbe designed<\/strong>.
