class=\"wp-block-azti-two-columns-content\">\n<p>According to experts, 4.6-12.7 million tones of marine\nlitter are added every year to our seas and oceans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Strand 2 Marine Litter of Sustainable Blue Economy\ncall is looking for actions that reduce, monitor and quantify, remove and\nrecycle marine litter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BLUENET\naims at reducing, by the end of 2020, the marine litter from sea-based sources<\/strong>&nbsp;and from the SE Bay of\nBiscay&nbsp;<strong>by\n20-40 %.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sources to be investigated are aquaculture and\nfisheries, and the amount and harmfulness of marine litter produced by their\nAbandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gears (ADLFG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>This will be achieved by:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Promoting<\/strong>&nbsp;the proactivity of the sectors in combating\nmarine litter, through ocean literacy<\/li><li><strong>Preventing<\/strong>&nbsp;the intentional and unintentional disposal of\nnets and ropes at the sea<\/li><li><strong>Facilitating<\/strong>&nbsp;the recovery of nets and ropes to fishers and\naquaculture operators<\/li><li><strong>Upcycling<\/strong>&nbsp;them by recycling and using them as raw recycled\nmaterials for manufacturing new fishing and aquaculture gears.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To do so, fishing nets and aquaculture long-line ropes\nwill be recovered and recycled, under the motto \u201clocally wasted, locally\nrecovered\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Specific Objetives:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Set a\nself-sustaining program for recycling ALDFG from Fishing and Aquaculture\n(F&amp;A).<\/li><li>Provide\nalternative designs for F&amp;A gears, promoting sustainable designs&nbsp;\n(less and more environmental-friendly material, inclusion of recycled\nmaterials).<\/li><li>Test\nthe suitability of the inclusion of recycled materials in net and rope-making\ndesigns (at lab-scale and at sea).<\/li><li>Estimate\nthe amount of marine litter generated by Fisheries and offshore Aquaculture.<\/li><li>Promote\nnetworking with projects and provide feedback to the implementation of\nPolicies.<\/li><li>Increase\nthe replicability and transfer opportunities of project results (guidelines for\npreventing \/ reducing \/ recycling).<\/li><li>Disseminate\nthe outcomes of BLUENET to general public, stakeholders, specialist audience,\nskilled
