The Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries<\/a> (STECF) has re-elected AZTI researchers Leire Ibaibarriaga, Andr\u00e9s Uriarte and Ra\u00fal Prellezo to continue to be part of this body that guides EU decisions on fisheries for the next three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these appointments, the representation of the technology centre in the European institution stands at 7%, a figure that once again strengthens the Basque entity as the organisation with the largest presence in this committee, made up of a team of 43 experts in areas such as marine biology and ecology, fisheries sciences, fishing technology and fisheries economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This re-election and their selection from among the hundreds of European scientists who have presented their candidacy is an accolade that demonstrates the scientific excellence of AZTI’s researchers. This is Ibaibarriaga and Uriarte’s second term on the committee, Prellezo’s third, and two other researchers from this technology centre also formed part of this international body, in which AZTI has participated continuously since 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, these three researchers, along with the rest of the committee’s scientific staff, will continue to advise the European Union (EU) on fisheries matters, resolving the issues raised by the European Commission to develop the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) in areas related to the conservation and management of living marine resources, including biological, economic, environmental, social and technical aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
