SUMMARY:ECSA 59 - Using the best scientific knowledge for the sustainable management of estuaries and coastal seas
DESCRIPTION:ECSA 59 will bring together a global multi-disciplinary community of researchers\, educators and practitioners to address issues of outstanding importance in the science (both natural and social) and management of estuaries and coastal seas in this rapidly changing world. \nEstuaries and coastal seas are facing multiple pressures coming from human activities\, which result in habitats and biodiversity loss\, introduction of invasive species\, input of different types of pollutants (i.e.\, organic compounds\, pharmaceuticals\, microplastics\, noise\, light\, etc.)\, overexploitation of resources and impairment of the marine health status. This is turn compromises the capacity of delivering ecosystem services and human benefits. \nOn top of these effects\, global change is dramatically modifying the structure and functioning of marine systems.\nTo reverse this situation\, implementation of management measures\, rooted in the best scientific knowledge possible\, are needed. \nIdentifying such measures requires long-term monitoring based on the ecosystem-based approach. This should be done through international collaboration (e.g.\, within the UN Decade of the Oceans\, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive\, etc.)\, with the participation of multidisciplinary teams\, using novel monitoring\, analysis and assessment tools\, including multiple origin data sources\, and going towards open science. \nThis can help to manage the activities that we are doing at estuaries and coastal seas\, and consequently\, contribute to achieving sustainable seas and marine resources. \nMORE INFORMATION & REGISTRATION <<HERE>>

SUMMARY:SUMMER SCHOOL 2022 "Addressing the cumulative impacts of multiple human pressures in marine systems"
DESCRIPTION:In this 18th edition of AZTI´s Summer School\, the topic proposed is “Addressing the cumulative impacts of multiple human pressures in marine systems. \nThe main objective of the school is to give an overview on the challenges and pressures that oceans are facing\, the cumulative effects of multiple pressures in the marine ecosystems\, as well as the policies and management needed\nto revert that situation\, with solutions for impacted seas. \nMost of the professors in this edition are participating in the Horizon Europe project GES4SEAS. \nWHEN: 8 and 9 September 2022\nWHERE: Aquarium of San Sebastian (Spain)\nLANGUAGE: English \nPROGRAM  <<HERE>>\nSPEAKERS INFO <<HERE>> \nThis year\, the summer school is organized back-to-back with ECSA59 Conference. You can register to both events\, or only to our summer school\, in the ECSA web page:\nREGISTER <<HERE>>

SUMMARY:Online Workshop "Biodiversity Modelling for the Digital Twin Ocean"
DESCRIPTION:Join this online session\, organized by AZTI as part of the European Commission tendered study “Marine Biodiversity Modelling” [RTD/2021/MV/10]. \nThe goal of this workshop is to boost public participation by biodiversity modelers and other stakeholders on the identification and characterization of biodiversity models that could contribute to the implementation of the European Digital Twin Ocean (DTO)\, an operational infrastructure to make ocean knowledge readily available to citizens\, entrepreneurs\, scientists and policy-makers. \nWHEN: 15 September\nWHERE: Online\nLANGUAGE: English\nMORE INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION <<HERE>>
